37 Hours. No Sleep. No Second Takes. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Alright, family, gather ‘round because this one’s gonna be a doozy.
This weekend. we are throwing ourselves headfirst into the Smodcastle Cinemas 37-Hour Film Challenge—which, if you don’t already know, is basically the filmmaking equivalent of running a marathon while chugging Red Bulls and screaming “I CAN DO THIS ALL DAY” like Captain America.
We have 37 hours to conceive, write, shoot, edit, and deliver a short film. Why? Because we love punishing ourselves for the art of cinema. Also, we might just be stupid. But mostly because making movies—especially in the most ridiculous, high-stakes, no-sleep way possible—is what we f***ing live for.
What the Hell Are We Thinking?
Look, this isn’t about making some Citizen Kane-level masterpiece (although let’s be real, if Orson Welles had an iPhone and 37 hours, he’d still be a pain in the ass about it). This is about the pure, unfiltered love of indie filmmaking—that thing where a bunch of sleep-deprived creatives get together, forget what “personal space” is, and somehow squeeze a movie out of thin air.
For us, it’s also a test. Can we still pull off that raw, run-and-gun, DIY magic like the scrappy weirdos we are? Can we make something badass without the luxury of second takes, proper meals, or a full REM cycle?
We’re about to find out.
